So you want to save money at the grocery store. Great! With a little planning, you’ll find that your grocery bill can be a lot lower than you’ve ever dared to dream. Lucky for you, here at PublixPackaging, we’re not all about external beauty. We’re also about saving money. Here are a few tricks of the trade we’ve learned along the way…
ONE: Plan Your Meals.
We know, we know, it’s so much easier to swing by the store on your way home from work or while you’re out running errands. Don’t do it. You’ll buy way more stuff this way — and buying more stuff has been scientifically proven to be one of the major causes of spending more money.
TWO: Don’t Fear the Coupon.
When you know what you need to buy (because you took our advice and planned your meals), you can shop strategically. So look for coupons — and then use them! (If you become obsessed with it, you might even save as much as the folks on TLC’s awesome new reality TV show, Extreme Couponing. (We highly recommend watching it, if only for entertainment value. But $600 worth of food for six bucks. Wow.) Don’t have time to cut out little scraps of money in your Sunday paper? Try a service like The Coupon Clippers. They do the work for you, and you save money.
THREE: Watch the Sales.
Grocery stores tend to put products on sale in cycles. Observe what’s on sale at the stores near you for a few months, and you should start to see a pattern. Stock up on stuff that will last while it’s on sale. Take it a step further by combining sales with coupons. That’s the real trick to spending next to nothing on groceries.
